Decipher Expands The Galaxy
The Official Star Wars website has some news on the Star Wars trading card game and new cards that have just been released.
Decipher Inc., makers of the popular Star Wars Customizable Card Game™, has unveiled some of the new cards that make up the Reflections II : Expanding the Galaxy set. This includes cards based on the expanded Star Wars universe of novels, comics and computer games.
Seen in the flesh for the first time are such notable characters as X-wing hotshot Corran Horn, smuggler baron Talon Karrde, rogue Royal Guard Kir Kanos, crime lord Prince Xizor, and the cunning Grand Admiral Thrawn. There are 28 different cards based on expanded universe sources, with one inserted in every pack of Reflections II.
As a treat to the fans of Star Wars literature, several familiar faces have stepped in to fill the roles of these characters. Authors Michael A. Stackpole and Timothy Zahn posed for Horn and Karrde, respectively.
Each pack will also feature an all-new foil card. There are 100 foils in the set, which are made up of favorite rare cards from previous sets, though with the lavish foil treatment. Each pack will also feature one of 26 powerful combo cards, which combine the traits of two existing cards, thus freeing up a slot in a player's deck. The remainder of the cards in a pack are a random mix from previous expansion sets and enhanced products.
Reflections II : Expanding the Galaxy will be available soon in 18-card packs and 30-pack display boxes.

Lessons Learnt From Episode 1 Toys
USA Today has an article on this year's movie-related toys and the lessons learnt from Episode 1 merchandising.
" There are going to be a lot of parents out there willing to buy these toys for their children as an extension of their movie experience, " says Maria Weiskott, editor in chief of the trade magazine Playthings.
That's what toymakers are counting on. But movie tie-ins are never that simple.
Last year's Star Wars prequel, The Phantom Menace, was supposed to be a sure thing for retailers, who expected licensed movie toys to bring in about $3 billion, but they only rang up $1 billion in sales. Child-oriented movies such as Godzilla and Small Soldiers also did poorly as toys because filmmakers failed to create an interesting flick for the finicky kid crowd.
What's different about the toys inspired by Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rugrats in Paris : The Movie and 102 Dalmatians ?
" To be successful, the movie first has to be good, and then the toys themselves have to be cool, " Weiskott says. " Star Wars was appealing for adults, but this year's movies are more kid-friendly. "

Boba Fett Action Figure Postponed
The 300th Star Wars - Boba Fett action figure from Hasbro has been postponed indefinitely due to some unknown problems. The following statement comes EntertainmentEarth.com.
The 300th Star Wars action figure - Boba Fett has been delayed until Spring 2001, sources report. No official explanation or reason has been given at this time. Apparently a very small quantity of these items shipped in error to some other retailers a few weeks ago, but the majority has been held back by Hasbro management. Again, no explanation has been given. We are once again accepting pre-orders for this item, but we cannot guarantee that orders will be filled until we officially hear from Hasbro.
